Michael Howarth | Missouri Southern State University
Michael is an associate professor at the Missouri Southern States University, where his main teaching areas at the university are creative writing, film studies, American literature, British literature of the 19th century, and children and ya literature. Besides publishing numerous essays, he is the author of books such as Under the Bed Creeping: Psychoanalyzing the Gothic in Children’s Literature (2014), Movies to See before You Graduate from High School (2019). Michael is also the author of fiction work, namely the young adults novel Fair Weather Ninjas (2016) and a gothic novel which will be published in late 2021.

 

Julia Round | Bournemouth University
Julia is Principal Lecturer in Communication at Bournemouth University, where she teaches on various courses including BA English and MA English and Literary Media. Her main fields of research are the Gothic, comics, and children’s literature. She is one of the editors of the peer-reviewed academic journal Studies in Comics, as well as one of the organizers of the annual International Graphic Novel and Comics Conference. Besides publishing numerous essays, she published the monographs Gothic in Comics and Graphic Novels: A Critical Approach (2014) and Gothic for Girls: Misty and British Comics (2019). She is also an author of short comics that have been published in anthologies and fanzines so far, their titles are “Doll Parts” (art by Catriona Laird), “The Haunting of Julia Round” (art by Letty Wilson), and “Borrowed Time” (art by Morgan Brinksman).
